Cornaro mansion comes alive

French archaeologists resumed excavations to unearth the bewitching world of the mediaeval summer mansion of
Caterina Cornaro.

Pothamia - (...) Prior to the Venetian era in Cyprus (1474-1489) the mansion was believed to be a Lusignan manor or fiefdom, owned between 1570-1571 by French Jew feudal owner, Ibrahim Ventoglu, with descendants on both sides of the divide today, local historian Costas Kyrris, told The Cyprus Weekly.
“Information on the life of
the Lusignans in the area comes from what was passed on from travellers at the time”, (...)

“It is also believed that the manor was not only used as a summer residence in a village where water was abundant, but it was also a production centre for sugar or cotton aimed for export. 
It was also used as a place where high-ranking foreigners were invited to visit, a type of embassy, where they rested and a basis from where they were given a tour of the rest of the island,” (...)
