The Courtiers' Hall is the first interior to be visited during a sightseeing tour of the castle. It was once the place of assembly of the imperial entourage. In Charles' days the room had a different appearance than it has today, thanks in the first place to the wooden panelling of all the walls for the purpose of securing warmth. Walls screwed together from thick trunks covered with panelling were inserted in the periphery of the masonry. On the southern side, where the present gallery is situated, there was a large recess with several windows. In the Courtiers' and Vassals' Halls visitors are acquainted with the personality of the founder of the castle, Charles IV, and the architectural and historical development of the castle. |
