The Northern Enclosure of Cairo's Citadel is surrounded by the Citadel's original Ayyubid walls and towers.
The BURG AS-SUFFA was built by al-Kamil around Salah ad-Din's walls, which continue to run through
its interior.
Notice how its 25-meterwide outer face bends to the south, where there is a turn
in the original walls. It was this feature which gave the Burg as-Suffa its name, the 'Alignment
Tower'. Its upper story was demolished in the 19th century and the rear portion is now embedded
in the buildings which can be seen rising above the walls.
