The Northern Enclosure of Cairo's Citadel is surrounded by the Citadel's original Ayyubid walls and towers.
The BURG AL-'ALWA (View Tower) was constructed by Salah ad-Din. Contrast its size (six meters in
diameter) and its building material with the flanking towers of al-Kamil.
* The walls between the Burg al-'Alwa and the Burg Kirkilyan were reinforced with an outer stone
encasement by Muhammad 'Ali, who also modified the surviving Ayyubid crenellation for muskets..
