1087: Fatimid period
Bab Al Futuh (below), Bab al-Nasr and the North Wall: two massive fortified gates and a section of wall
mark
the Northern limits of the old city. They were built by Badr al-Gamali, an Armenian soldier of fortune,
called in to maintain order. From the top of the wall one has a splendid view of the Mosque al-Hakim.
