1425: Burgi Mamluk period. These Mamluks were of Circissian origin and were quartered in the
Citadel, hence their name Burgi or "of the Tower).
The Madrasa (College) of al-Ashraf Barsbay at the corner of Muski Street and the spice bazars is a
quite refuge from the noise and confusion of the markets. Conqueror of Cyprus, barsbay had afleet and
kept tight control of the internationa spice trade.
