KRAK
(CRAQ) DES CHEVALIERS, HOMS, SYRIA
The
most famous example of the strongholds of the Crusaders (Franks)
in the Middle East. It was built to the north of the Kingdom Of
Jerusalem in the early twelfth century by the Knights of St. John
of Jerusalem. This impressive castle yielded to Saladin in 1188
only after a long struggle.
