KRAK (CRAQ) DES CHEVALIERS, HOMS, SYRIA
The most famous example of the strongholds of the Crusaders (Franks) in the Middle East. It was built to the north of the Kingdom Of Jerusalem in the early twelfth century by the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem. This impressive castle yielded to Saladin in 1188 only after a long struggle.
