It isn't known when the first Castle Horst was built; there was
a 'Castellum Rode' in this area in the 11th century, but the
name Horst was first mentioned in 1263.

The first castle at this site was built in the 11th century as a
part of a line of defense around Castle Gravensteen in Gent.

The ruins, dating back to the 11th century, look gloomy but
impressive, emphasized by the roughly piled slate walls.

A ruin which origins date back to the 11th century. The name
Montaigle (meaning eagle rock) was only used after the 14th
century, before that the castle was named Faing after a
powerfully family in this region.

Extra: Birth place of Crusader Dietrich von Reuland 'The Lion';
participant in Third Crusade with Frederick 'Barbarossa'.

Castle Tomp is a round keep, dating back to, probably, 1309.
It's builder was most likely a knight: Willem van Boxtel.
